FAQ for iOS app (Ver3.2.0~)

What is the red square icon which appears on bookshelf screen?
From Ver.3.6.1 onwards, there is a new function which displays your reading status : read, unread, reading.

[ Bookshelf screen ]
Your books are marked as below according to your reading status:
・Unread→ "Unread (未読)"
・Reading→ Red square icon (bookmark)
・Read→ "Read (既読)"

[ Book list ]
Either "Unread (未読)", "Reading (読みかけ)", "Read (既読)" status will show up above [Read (読む)] or [Download (ダウンロード)] button.

You may display/hide icons by the following steps.

[Set up (設定)] > [Set icon (アイコン表示設定)] > Set "OFF" the icon you want to hide

You may also change your reading status (unread/read) for each book (*) as below.

Books read using Ver.3.5.0 and other former versions will not show your reading status. You will be able show your status by following (*) steps.
What is the red circle with a number on [ストア(Store)] button?
It shows the number of unread messages you have received.
Messages will disappear by accessing the store from [ストア(Store)] button, and clicking the message on the upper right corner of the screen.

Please note that function buttons such as "message (メッセージ)", "Check!", and "Refresh(更新)" will not show up on screen if you are not signed in. In that case, please sign out/sign in from the [設定(Settings)] screen. Messages will reappear by tapping the logo of BookWalker at the top left corner of the screen, and refreshing the page.
How can I delete "立ち読み書籍(Books for Browse)" in app?
You may delete them by following ways:

【Delete from[一覧(List) ]screen】
(1) Tap "編集(Edit)" on top right corner of the screen
(2) Click check boxes of Books for Browse
(3) Select "削除(Delete)" at the bottom of the screen
(4) Select "OK" for the message: "立ち読み書籍が選択されています。~(You have selected Books for Browse.~)"
(5) Select "OK" for the message: "立ち読み書籍を削除します。~(Do you want to delete Books for Browse?~)"

【Delete from [本棚(Bookshelf)]screen】
(1) Tap "編集(Edit)" at the top right corner of screen
(2) Tap "立ち読み書籍(Books for Browse)" you want to delete
(3) Select "一覧表示から削除する(Delete from list)"
(4) Select "OK" for the message: "立ち読み書籍を削除します。~(Do you want to delete Books for Browse?~)"

Once deleted, you may not restore the book data, even by selecting "書籍一覧の再作成(Re-create book list)".
Please download book data once again from the book store, in order to read them.
Why is the price different for the same item, according to iOS, Android, and Web Store?
As for iOS, we need to set the price according Apple Inc. price range. On the other hand, we can set the price freely for Android and Web Store. Therefore, for some items, the price changes according to iOS, Android, and Web Store.
I've received a receipt mail for the same item from Apple (iTunes Store).
Sometimes, a receipt from Apple Inc.(iTunes Store) arrives few days after your purchase. Also, if you have made several purchases in a row on iTunes, you may receive your receipt together in one e-mail. Currently, as the names of purchased items are not shown on receipt, please check the number of items you have purchased, with the numbers of items on your receipt. We apologize for the inconvenience caused, and appreciate your cooperation and understanding. (*This applies to iOS App. Store (Ver3 onward).)
I can't find the book which should be purchasable.
We do not offer some of our books on App Store for various reasons. Try searching on our Web Store when you cannot find the book you are looking for. By signing in with the same account, you are able to enjoy your books purchased on Web Store, on each apps as well .

I've lost book data I've purchased.
Books purchased before you have created your account (without signing in) may not show up temporarily after creating your account/signing in. You may restore your book data by following the steps of "transfer purchase history " on old application (BookWalker 1G (before Ver2.3.8)).

I can't transfer my purchase history.
You can "transfer purchase history" with older version of our app ((BookWalker 1G (before Ver2.3.8)). )

[Steps to transfer purchase history]
*When downloading app from App Store to transfer data, please sign in with the same AppleID which you have used to purchase the book.

(1) Sign in your account after installing the old version of app.
(2) After you have successfully signed in, it will start transferring your book data (which you have purchased without signing in) .

Please check each screen and tap "OK", "進む (Continue)", and "実行 (Submit)" as shown. If an entry screen appears, please enter your Apple ID which you have used when purchasing the book (which you have purchased without signing in) .

I've transferred my purchase history, but the book data doesn't show up.
Please check if you have downloaded app(to transfer purchase history), with your AppleID you have used, when purchasing books. If there is no problem with your Apple ID, there is a possibility that you have registered more than one ID (e-mail address), and have used a different ID to transfer your purchase history. In that case, try signing in again with a different sign in ID which you may have registered, or send us all your e-mail address you may have registered, so we can investigate for you.
I want to know how I can close my book. I can't go back to 一覧(book list) screen or 本棚(bookshelf) without closing my book.
Try tapping center of the screen when reading, and a menu bar will show up at the top and bottom of screen (The menu bar disappears by tapping again). Tapping the [本を閉じる(close the book) (×)] button at the top left corner of menu bar will allow you to close the book and go back to [本棚(bookshelf)] screen. *You can adjust tappable area on screen from menu bar's [読書設定(setup)] > [タップ領域(tappable area)].
How can I add a bookshelf?
Please follow either steps below.

[Adding bookshelf from "本棚 (bookshelf)" screen]
(1) Tap name of the bookshelf
(2) "編集 (edit)" → "本棚を追加 (add bookshelf)"
(3) Set any name you like for your bookshelf →"OK" → "完了(complete)"

[Adding bookshelf from "一覧 (list)" screen]
(1) Tap "編集 (edit)" , then select and check books you want to storage
(2) "本棚に追加 (add to bookshelf)" → "本棚を追加 (add a bookshelf)"
(3) Set any name you like for your bookshelf → "OK"

What is the version of my app?
Please start up your app and check app version from [設定(set up)] > [BookWalker].
I can't remember if I've created my BookWalker account.
Please check your membership by either way below.
1) Check from other apps you are using
If you are using our app from more than one device, check if [設定(set up)] > [マイページ(My Account)] appears at the button right corner of your screen. If [マイページ(My Account)] is displayed on screen, you are already registered. You can check your sign in ID (registered e-mail address) within [マイページ(My Account)].

2) Check e-mails sent from BookWalker
If you have received registration notification, e-magazines, etc. from us, you are already registered. The address which the e-mails were sent to is your sign in ID. (E-mails are sent from "@bookwalker.jp" or "@mail.bookwalker.jp" domain.)
What is BookWalker "ログインID (Sign in ID)"?
The e-mail address you have registered is your [ログインID(Sign in ID)].
I forgot my password.
We recommend you to reset your password.

I can't receive e-mail to reset my password.
If you have entered a wrong e-mail address when re-setting your password, you will not be able to receive our assistance e-mail to re-set your password. Please also check if your e-mail account can receive e-mails from "bookwalker.jp" domain, as password assistance e-mail is sent automatically from "noreply@bookwalker.jp".
I "failed to prove your identity" when trying to reset my password.
You need your registered date of birth and gender in order to reset your password.
You cannot re-set your password if either information is wrong.
If you still cannot solve your problem, please contact support and send us the date of birth you think you have registered, as well as the date (year/month/date) which you have registered BookWalker.
Can I download my book data all at once?
You can download your book data in batch by steps below.
 <1> Start up BookWalker app, sign in, then open [一覧(list)] screen.
 <2> Tap [編集(edit)] at upper right corner.
 <3> Click check boxes for books you want to download.
 <4> Tap [ダウンロード(download)] at bottom right corner.

It will start downloading after the above steps.
I can't sign in BookWalker with my Apple ID.
You need a BookWalker account to sign in. You cannot sign in with your Apple ID. If you have signed in before, please try signing in with your registered e-mail address. If you have never signed in, please register for a new account.

I can't pinch and zoom color illustration for non-pictorial books, such as light novels.
Please try use the zoom function.

[What is zoom function?]
Zoom function allows you to zoom in/out by pinching in/out. Double tap the screen of an illustrated page, and a screen for zoom function will pop up. In order to go back to the original page, double tap or tap the center of the screen and select "閉じる(close)".
I've tilted the device sideways to read a comic book in a full-screen display, but it shows one page in a zoom display.
It may be showing in a comic zoom mode.

[What is a comic zoom mode?]
It is a view mode used in some comic books. For those correspondence comic books, you may change the display to zoom mode by double tapping the screen. By doing so, it only shows one page (in a zoom mode) when tilting the device sideways (horizontally). Please double tap the screen again in order to change back to normal mode.

(Example of how it is shown on screen in zoom view mode)
-When holding device vertically → Two pages will be enlarged according to screen size. You may turn pages by scrolling sideways.
-When holding device horizontally → Only one page will be enlarged according to screen size. You may turn pages by scrolling down.

What is the red square icon which appears on bookshelf screen?

I get determined as foreign access, although I'm accessing from Japan.
This may happen when you are using Chrome for Mobile, and your setting for [Reduce data usage] is switched ON. When this setting is ON, there seems to be a case where you get access via Google server (in USA) to speed up your connection, and that is why you get determined as foreign access.

In order to prevent this from happening, please switch OFF the above setting(*), or try using a different type of browser.
If you are not using Chrome for Mobile and this problem still happens, please contact Support for help.

(*)How to check your Chrome for Mobile setting:
Chrome menu > Settings > (Advanced) Bandwidth management > Reduce data usage
I can't download the book I've purchased. (It doesn't show up on [一覧(list)] screen)
First, after activating BookWalker app, please check if you are signed in, just in case. If you are not signed in, go to [設定(set up)] screen under [ストア/本棚/一覧/設定(store/list/set up)] at the bottom of screen. Then sign in with your registered e-mail address and password. After signing in, start downloading your purchased books as it will show up as [未ダウンロード(download unfinished)] on the [一覧(list)] screen.
I've tried signing in several times, but I still can't download my book data.
Please check if you do not have problems with your internet connection, just in case. In order to do so, activate other apps which needs internet connection. If it works fine, uninstall BookWalker app, and re-install from the page below. Please try signing in again after installing.

Do I have to pay money to register BookWalker?
BookWalker is a free service anyone can register. By creating your account, you can enjoy various services, such as free e-books and access to your purchase log from different devices (PC/Android/iOS).
On what kind of device can I use BookWalker service?
We recommend you to use devices below.

iOS...iPhone/iPad/iPod touch on iOS6 onward. *It will operate on iOS5 onward as well, but we recommend you to use iOS6 onward.

Android...4.0 onward. *It will operate on 2.3 onward OS as well, but we recommend you to use 4.0 onward.
 - Our service is not available on Intel CPU-based devices.
 - As for Android OS 4.0.0 onward-based devices, our service is only available on devices sold in Japan.
 - We do not guarantee our service on all devices. Please check if you could use our services with books offered for free.

PC (for Windows)...Windows 8.1/8/7/Vista/XP
- Windows XP is non-guaranteed
- Unavailable on Windows RT

PC (for Mac)...App for Mac will be released in near future. Please use "BookWalker Viewer for PC β" (on Mac OS X 10.6 onward) until then.

I want to know how to register BookWalker.
You need an e-mail address to register BookWalker. You can easily register by entering your account information (your e-mail address, etc.) from the link below. Please note that you are only allowed to create one account, and you cannot merge book data in different accounts, into one.

I can't receive my registration e-mail.
Registration e-mail is sent automatically from "noreply@bookwalker.jp". If you are filtering e-mails by domain on your mail account, please change setting so that you could receive e-mails from "bookwalker.jp" domain. Please also check the spam folder, as there is a possibility that our e-mail is systematically sent to spam.
I can't sign in.
Please double-check your registered e-mail address. Some devices change part of your e-mail address into capital letters by default, and you may have registered your e-mail address wrong.
I forgot my password. I don't know what my password is.
We recommend you to reset your password. Please be careful for capitalized letters when doing so. If you enter a wrong e-mail address, you will not be able to receive an e-mail for resetting password.
Also, an e-mail (to reset your password) is sent automatically from "noreply@bookwalker.jp". If you are filtering e-mails by domain on your mail account, please change setting so that you could receive e-mails from "bookwalker.jp" domain.

What are my payment options when purchasing books?
Your payment option changes according to the application you use for Web Store. Android, iOS.

*You need iPhone/iPad/iPod touch (iOS6 onward is recommended), or Android OS (4.0 onward is recommended) based device (smartphone or tablet). Please install one of these applications beforehand.
I want to know how to use the BookWalker coin.
1 coin = JPY 1, and may be applied when purchasing on web store. In order to apply the coin, go to the checkout screen and enter the amount of coin you would like to use. (The smallest amount of coin you may apply is 1 coin.)

I can't find the book I've purchased. How do I download my purchased books?
As for Android/iOS apps, your purchased books will show up on [一覧 (List)]. Open [一覧 (List)] page by tapping bottom part of screen on BookWalker app, then tap [ダウンロード(download)] button next to the book you want to download.

As for PC Viewer (BookWalker for Windows β), sign in after starting up your Viewer and you will be able to download your books from [ダウンロード(download)] button. You do not need to download data for the old app (BookWalker Viewer for PC β).
Can I download my book data all at once?

My purchased books won't show up on [一覧(List)] page.
As for Android/ iOS apps, start up BookWalker app and tap [設定(set up)] at the bottom of screen. Then choose [書籍一覧の再生成(refresh book list)],which is the fifth one up from bottom row. This will solve misalignment between BookWalker data and data on your device, and your purchased book will show up on screen. There is no need to download data for PC Viewer. Just sign in after starting up your Viewer and your purchased book should show up.
How can I request a book be made available?
Please request from "Contact Us / Book Request" page.

Purchase bonus / Gift code / Coins

I want to know how I can receive purchase bonus (decorated bookshelf/ special booklet), and use gift codes.
You can check your gift code on [マイページ(My Account)]. Please refer to below for details.

1) Check your gift code and copy
 Copy gift code (16 digits) from [マイページ(My Account)] > [購入特典(Purchase Bonus)]

2) Go to [購入特典(Purchase Bonus)] page.
 *If it is a bonus received after June 2013, go to each [購入特典(Purchase Bonus)] page from [使用方法 (Details)].
 *If you cannot go to [購入特典(Purchase Bonus)] from [使用方法(Details)], go to the book page and click button under [購入特典(Purchase bonus)] at bottom right corner, or search by the name of purchase bonus from search box.

3) Click "ギフトコードを入力する (Enter gift code)" and paste the code you have copied in step 1.

*Some gift codes are sent by e-mail. Please check the [購入特典(Purchase Bonus)] page as it differs according to campaign and item.
I can't get my purchase bonus (decorated bookshelf/ special booklet) from a PC Viewer.
You cannot check gift codes from PC Viewer. Please sign in web page, and check from [マイページ(My Account)] > [購入特典(Purchase Bonus)].
*You cannot use [きせかえ本棚(Original Bookshelf)] on PC Viewer.
What are coins?
You earn coins when purchasing items on BookWalker. 1 Coin = JPY 1, and are usable within BookWalker.
Please refer the "コインとは?(What are coins?)" page for details (*Content offered only in Japanese language).

*Please note that if you apply coin usage and proceed to settlement, the coin will be in a temporary applied state. If you cancel the proceedings at this timing, you may not be able to use the applied amount of coin for 60 minutes at the most.

How can I read e-books on BookWalker ?
You can read e-books by using iOS/ Android app or PC Viewer, which could be downloaded from App Store or Google Play store. Please install app to your iOS (iPhone/iPad/iPod touch) or Android OS based device. A PC Viewer can be downloaded from below:

Can I read books I've purchased on PC?
Yes, you can read it on PC by using PC Viewer. Please see a page on PC Viewer for details.
Are there any books I can't read on PC Viewer?
Yes. Although you can read most books on BookWalker, there are some books you cannot read on PC Viewer. Please check details on individual book page before purchasing.
Can I share books between Android and iOS? Can I use the same account to do so?
Yes, you can share books between different devices, if you are signed in to the same account (*You need to download data for each device.)

- How to share book data between devices
(1) Go to [設定(set up)] at bottom of screen → [ログイン(sign in)/新規登録(register)] and enter your account information.
(2) Tap [書籍一覧(book list)], and check data of books you have purchased.

*Even if you are using one account, number of devices the books could be shared is limited. Please contact us if you have gone over your limit and need to unlock your device authentication.
How many devices can I use with one account?
Currently, you can use up to 7 devices at the same time. Please note that number of devices usable may change.
I'm using number of devices up to limit, and can't reset devices either.
If your device number reaches limit, you can reset your devices once. From the second time on, please contact us to reset it for you.

Original (design) Bookshelf [for Android/ iOS app]

How can I move purchased books to bookshelf?
There are 3 ways to move books to bookshelf.
 (1) Tap [一覧(List)] at bottom of screen → edit and move books on [書籍一覧(Book List)].
 (2) Tap [本を追加(Add Book)] on [本棚(Bookshelf)] screen.
 (3) Sort books when downloading new books (on [書籍一覧(Book List)])
How many bookshelf can I have at the most?
You can have 100 bookshelves at the most.
Please add bookshelves according to the number of books you have purchased, or Original Bookshelves you want .
How can I change name and design of a bookshelf?
You can change your bookshelf name and design by the following.
Tap [編集(Edit)] of [本棚(Bookshelf)] screen → then tap [本棚変更・きせかえ(Change bookshelf name & design)]

Different function of BookWalker

Can I make e-mail notices to stop?
Aside from important notices, "e-mail notices" are optional. You may choose whether to accept e-mails when registering, or from [マイページ(My Account)].
→ Set "e-mail notices" from [マイページ(My Account)].
What is an Invitation ID?
It is an ID number given to each user when he/she has registered. You can check your "Invitation ID" from [マイページ(My Account)], and use this ID when there are "invite a friend campaign" and so on.
What is Check! function?
A Check! function allows you to bookmark books you are interested in. You can add books to Check! List by clicking "Check!" button from search results, as well as individual book page. To check the list of books you have bookmarked, click "Check!" button at upper right corner of screen. Bookmarked items will automatically get deleted from Check! List when you purchase the book. When the book is in the Cart (still unpurchased), it will appear on both Check! List and Cart.

What is Message function?
It is a function which informs you notices from us. When you have a message, a notice "メッセージが届きました(You have a message)" pops up on upper right hand corner. This message function is only for members. To receive this message, please register as a member and sign in.

What is 先取りCheck!(Check! Ahead) function?
It is a function which allows you to add unreleased books to "Check! List" from Release Schedule page. When items added to [先取りCheck!(Check! Ahead)] gets released, you receive a notice on Message. You can check release dates and book details on Release Schedule page.

What is the "フォローリスト(follow list)"?
The follow function allows you to receive new book information of writers and book labels you are interested in. It also allows you to easily open book list page for writers/labels you have followed. Names of writers/labels are listed on your follow list once you follow them, and will be able to manage those information on that list page.

How can I get latest information about released books and campaigns?
We will inform you by "Notification e-mail" and our official Twitter account (Japanese language only). Please set up your account or follow us to get our latest updates!

Do you have a list of books you handle?
You may get the list of books we handle from csv file or rss.

Others

Can I use BookWalker from overseas(outside Japan)?
You can use BookWalker from overseas. However, there are books which cannot be purchased, and campaigns which you cannot participate. Also, you can proceed checkout only by PayPal or WebMoney. For viewing, you need either iPhone/iPad/iPod touch, or Android OS based devices (smartphone or tablet) which support Google Play. We recommend you to check if you could use BookWalker app on your device before purchasing. Please note that even if an item is not sold overseas, you can still read books purchased in Japan.
I found books which I can't purchase overseas.
There are books which cannot be purchased overseas. In that case, we will have "日本限定(Japan only )" sign on them.
At which timing will I know my total (fixed) payment, when purchasing books from overseas?
There are two ways to make a settlement from overseas. The timing which the settlement price gets fixed differs respectively.

[1] Transaction via Paypal: You will be able to check the total price (in local currency) during checkout. *Price is shown on the Order Total on Paypal.
[2] Transaction via WebMoney: Since it is a pre-paid service, you will be charged when you top-up your account with your credit card, etc.

What sort of campaign does not accept entry from overseas?
We basically do not accept overseas entry for campaigns which involves sending presents. Cash/coin back campaigns are an exception. Please be careful, as all campaigns are set in Japanese Standard Time (JST).
What is a Web Store?
We call our non-app (Android, iOS) store pages, such as the web page, a Web Store.
Why are some pages after the front cover, blank?
Due to specification of BookWalker's viewer, sometimes there is a blank page right after the cover page. Please understand that this is not because there are pages missing, but a blank page is inserted on purpose to adjust printing overlap of two-page spread.
I haven't received a reply back for the inquiry I've made.

    No. You withdrawing from each course does not mean withdrawing from BookWalker.

    As a general rule, you may continue to read if it is within the same month of the withdrawal.
